Tiffen Hot Mirror Filters
The imaging devices in HD (high definition) cameras are inherently sensitive to infra-red (IR) light because they do not incorporate an internal infrared blocker. Not only does infrared bleed make it difficult to focus, but it may result in footage with a magenta cast. Tiffen has addressed the problem of IR pollution with the introduction of its exclusive Hot Mirror and Hot Mirror IRND filters that completely block IR through the entire spectrum.
Tiffen Hot Mirror filters are the perfect solution for IR pollution with no appreciable reduction in visible light transmission.
The Hot Mirror (HM) filter can be used individually, stacked with IR ND Filters (IRND), or as a Hot Mirror IRND all in one combination filter (HMIRND).
Tiffen IRND filters provide a true neutral density beyond the visible range into the near infra-red. IRND filters incorporate Tiffen’s unique ColorCore™ technology that sandwiches the coating within the filter and allows for easy cleaning without fear of damaging the filter as with surface-coated filters. These innovative filters are made from the finest optically pure glass and are ground and polished to the highest possible standards of flatness and perfect parallelism.
IR ND filters and IR 85ND filters eliminate Infrared bleed above 700nm. This is particularly important as it now allows for the use of the heavier grades of Neutral Density filters needed for these HD cameras while simultaneously maintaining complete color balance.
Tiffen’s Hot Mirror filters (HM) are available as a stand alone filter or in combination, as HMIRND.3, HMIRND.6, HMIRND.9, HMIRND1.2, HMIRND1.5, HMIRND1.8, and new HMIRND2.1. They are available in popular motion picture sizes.
