Adjusting Back Focus

1. Mount the PRO35 on the camera and remove the PL lens cap.

2. View the image of the ground glass on a good monitor or view through the camera's viewfinder.

3. Make sure the power to the unit is off. Loosen lock knob on back focus adjustment ring and rotate the ring to make the texture of the ground glass as sharp as possible. Lock the ring with the lock knob.

Tips for best using the Pro35:

To minimize visible grain or texture from the PRO35 ground glass on the HD image, the iris of the film lens on the PRO35 should not be set smaller than T2.8. The closer to wide open the iris is, the less apparent the texture will be.

Exposure can be compensated for by:

Adjusting the exposure ring at the rear of the PRO35.

Using the ND filter wheel in the camera.

Placing ND filters in front of the film lens.

Adjusting the GAIN on the camera.

A combination of any of the above.

Camera shutter speed (exposure time) can also be adjusted, however, care must be taken to insure that the shutter speed selected does not make the texture more visible. In this case, the speed of the PRO35 motor can be adjusted to minimize the texture.

Note that it is more difficult to see the grain or texture on smaller monitors.
